The Marimira Coffee Factory was started in 1966 and currently hosts about 1100 smallholder farmers. Located in the Marimira subregion of Murang’a - north of Nairobi, amidst the Aberdare Mountains - the area is blessed with mineral-rich volcanic soil and a diversity of surrounding plantlife. The cherries are handpicked, pulpled and then fermented to remove the mucilage. The parchment is then washed with the fresh water of the Mukungai River and dried on raised beds for 13-14 days.
